Earl W. Day, 88, formerly of State College, went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg.

He was born October 15, 1922 at Rebersburg, a son of the late George W. and Maggie Bernice Phillips Day.

On May 1, 1943, he married Rosella A. Stover who preceded him in death on June 17, 2011.

He attended Rebersburg Schools where he was on the Soccer team. During World War II from December 23, 1943 through January 8, 1946, Mr. Day served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific, serving with the 4th Division as a front line medic and sharpshooter. He earned a good conduct medal, a Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars; and a Asiatic – Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and a World War II Victory Medal. His unit also won a Meritorious Unit Award.

Mr. Day, worked at the Dairy Breeding Research Center at Penn State for nine years. He then farmed for thirty years, and completed his full time working career by working for twelve years with the State College Area School District, retiring February 15, 1988. After his retirement he worked as a custodian at Bethel Church of the Nazarene in State College.

In addition to working at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, he was an active, faithful and dedicated member of the church.

Earlier in life he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving Mr. Day are two daughters, Susan E. Robinson (Dallas) of Hollidaysburg, Joanne L. Richner (Randy) of Hublersburg; one son Dennis E. Day (Donna) of State College, fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; one sister Loretta Musick of Winston Salem NC, two brothers Carl Day of Glenn Iron and Richard Day of Lamar.

In addition to his parents and wife, Earl was preceded in death by a son Ralph E. Day; and a brother Harold Day.

Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p. m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, and from 10 a. m. until 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, September 21, 2001 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow immediately at 11:00 a. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Connie Dixon officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
