Edith Ethel Wright passed away at Wynwood House Assited Living Home in Centre Hall, PA, on Saturday, August 20, 2011. She was 90 years old. Born on December 05, 1920 in Randolph, New York, she was the daughter of LeGrand Wesley and Minnie Archer Wright. She attended the country school on Archer Hill Road in Randolph and Randolph Central School. She was a graduate of the Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing and worked for Buffalo General Hospital before serving as a nurse in the US Navy during World War II. After her service, she returned to work at the American Red Cross and Roswell Park Hospital in Buffalo before being recalled to serve in the Korean War. She returned to Buffalo and began her career teaching nursing at the Millard Fillmore Hospital, where she worked for 32 years, retiring in 1985. Edith had a lifelong love of traveling, and visited many cities and national parks in the US and Canada, as well as in Europe. Some of her favorite stories were about when she was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. She was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church in Randolph, New York. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane, who died as a child in 1932; also by two brothers: Carl who died in 1973, and Archer who died in 1985. She is survived by a niece, Lori Wright of Randolph, NY; two nephews: Wayne Wright of Chattanooga TN, and Greg Wright of State College, PA; and five 1st cousins. She spent the last year of her life in State College, PA, with her nephew. A memorial service will be held in Randolph later in the fall.
