Edith K. Katz died on March 31st, 2015 at Green Ridge Village, Newville, PA.

Born September 23, 1915, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Louis and Reba A. Kolsky. She grew up in Philadelphia and attended Beaver College before she married Alan A. Katz on June 12, 1938. They moved to Bellefonte, PA in 1944 with their daughter, Kathryn.

Edith was a founding member of the Antiquists’ Society and was active in the organization for more than 40 years. She helped to found the ShrubDubs, a group of women who enjoyed flowers and gave their time to beautify different projects in Bellefonte. She was one of the original founders and volunteers of the popular yearly Children’s Fair. She served in many volunteer capacities at the Mount Nittany Medical Center when it was located in Bellefonte. She was an enthusiastic golfer and bridge player and enjoyed success at both. She also enjoyed the arts and traveling.

She lived her life with grace and caring. She maintained countless friendships with people from a variety of ages and backgrounds. She was a constant reader and a lifelong patron of the Centre County Library. She was the subject of news stories as one of the area’s oldest and continuing library patrons. This culminated in the celebration of her ninetieth birthday with the successful establishment of the Edith Katz Large Print Book Fund.

Beloved wife and mother, Edith was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Morton Kolson. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn and son-in-law Hugh, residents of Carlisle, grandson Neil, and a niece and nephew.
Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
