Edward Dean Zong, 93, of Bellefonte, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Windy Hill Village, in Philipsburg.

He was born May 25, 1925, in Oak Hall Station, Centre County, PA; a son of the late Glenn Jacob and Vivian “Peggy” (Johnstonbaugh) Zong.

On August 31, 1946, he married Kathryn Marie Krout who preceded him in death on December 9, 1990. They were married for 44 years and raised three children together. On September 6, 1995, he married Eleanor Lee Delaney Moyer who preceded him in death on August 19, 2010.

Dean proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Luzon and the USS Pyro.

After the war, Dean started working for OW Houts in State College. Retiring as Manager of Lumber Supplies after 50+ years of service.

Dean loved to crochet making many unique pieces over the years. He also liked to travel and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, in Bellefonte, the American Legion POST 245, a life member of the VFW in State College, and the Order of the Odd Fellows, in Pine Grove Mills.

Surviving him are his three children; Sandi Klim of Terryville, CT, and John J. Zong and his wife Susan of State College and Cindy Russell and her husband Bruce of Lemont; one brother, Larry Zong and his wife Laura of East Freedom, PA; six grandchildren, Alexis Russell, Michelle Russell, Jodi Klim, Josh Zong, Rebecca Zong, and Monica Oliver; eight great–grandchildren, Haylee, Zoe, Christopher, Katherine, Sophia, Jadyn, Ella and Rosalind.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Funeral Home, with Deacon Alex Dyakiw officiating.

Entombment with full military honors will follow the Funeral Service at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 102 W. Lamb Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
