Emma Jane “Janie” Hoover, 87, of Pine Glen, went to be with her loved ones in Heaven on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Windy Hill Nursing Home in Philipsburg. Born on July 12, 1923, in Pine Glen, she was the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Mettie M. Cole McCullough. On December 1, 1941, in Oakland, MD, she married Clyde L. Hoover, Jr. who passed away December 21, 1982.
Janie is a 1940 graduate of the Snow Shoe High School. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She worked a short time at Hall Brothers Hosiery Mills in Snow Shoe as a stocking inspector and also at Erie Technological Products in State College. She was a faithful member of the Pine Glen United Methodist Church where she held several positions such as Sunday School Superintendent and church treasurer.
For the last ten years, Janie lived with her daughter and son in-law, Nancy and Robert Warner in Port Matilda, where they were her sole caregivers. While there, she attended the Port Matilda United Methodist Church, and sang in the church choir.
Janie was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She handled the role of full-time caregiver (her mother Mettie for seven years, and her husband, Clyde for 10 years) with love and compassion. She doted on her grandchildren, and was babysitter for many. She had a generous heart and was always ready to help those in need. She loved all animals (and took in many strays), but her favorite was her dog, Buffy—her loyal companion for 17 years. She enjoyed softball and played up into her 60’s (pitcher and shortstop for the Pine Glen Softball Team). Janie had many accomplishments throughout her life but she was best known for was her ability to brighten a room with her beautiful smile, her happy whistle, her wit, and her fantastic sense of humor.
Janie is survived by her three children, Nancy E. Warner, and her husband, Robert, of Port Matilda, Patricia A Condo, and her husband, Michael, of Fredrick MD, Gary W. Hoover, and his wife, Cheryl, of Martinsburg, WV, and her son in-law, Paul Haas of Mill Hall. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Zwisle and Anna Neidrick residents of Dayspring, Morrisdale PA, one brother, Frank McCullough of Felton DE, 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 8 step-great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, Janie was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan J. Haas who passed away on May 22, 2009, four brothers, Edward, Arthur, Robert, and John, and two sisters, Dorothy Evitts and Olive “Gee” McDermott.

Sycamore St, Snow Shoe and on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 10-11, until time of service, at the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church, Rt. 550, Stormstown.
