Emro M. Danko, 88, of Clarence, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born on January 1, 1924, in Grassflat, he was the son of the late John & Mary Belko Danko. On June 25, 1949, in Clarence, he married Margaret D. Murgas, who passed away on January 17, 2002.
Emro was a 1942 graduate from Cooper High School. After returning home from the service, he attended the Williamsport Area Community College. He was employed at J.H. France Refractory in Clarence doing various jobs, retiring as a foreman after 40 years of service.
Emro served in the United States Army during WWII. For his years of service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asian Pacific Theater Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, and the Victory Medal.
Emro was a 50yr member of the Clarence American Legion Post 813, Moose Club#1565, Snow Shoe Ambulance Club, Jednota Lodge, 3 Point Sportsman Club, and served on the American Legion Post 813 & American VFW Post 5644 Honor Guard for many years. He was a coach for the Mt. Top Little League for many years, played baseball for Clarence with his brothers. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, being in the outdoors, and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. Emro parked cars at Beaver Stadium for over 40yrs. He was an avid Penn State Football and Philadelphia Phillies Baseball fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
Emro is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Bubb and her husband, Scott of Potters Mills, three grandchildren; Tracy Rigg and her husband, Lenny, Jodi Reed and her husband, Willis, and Gina Emigh and her companion, Brandon. Also surviving are his six great grandchildren, Garrett, Colton, & Kadyn Rigg, and Jozie, Emery, & Evan Reed, and his brother Frank Danko and his wife, Stephania of Hawk Run.
Along with his parents and wife, Emro was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Public visitation will be on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8pm with a rosary service at 7:45pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11am at the Queen of Archangel Parish Church in Clarence with Father Lubomir J. Strecok officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Snow Shoe Twp.
In lieu of flowers, Emro’s wish is to have memorial contributions made to the Mt. Top Veterans Memorial Plaque Restoration Fund, C/O Snow Shoe Fall Festival, PO Box 303, Snow Shoe, PA 16874.
