Esther G. Zettle, 80, of Spring Mills, passed peacefully from this life at Wynwood House in Centre Hall on Oct. 31, 2010.

Esther, a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Mildred I. Wilson Duck was born in Madisonburg on Aug. 19, 1930. Esther was a graduate of the Miles Twp High School. On July 17, 1950, Esther married Nevin G. Zettle. Mr. Zettle preceded Esther in death on Sept. 12, 1997. Esther was formerly employed at Sylvania in Mill Hall. She then went on to work at the Pattee Library on the Penn State campus, retiring in 1991 with 18 years of service. Esther was a member of the Madisonburg United Methodist Church. She was a former Judge of Elections for Gregg Township. Esther enjoyed working in her garden and then canning and cooking the fruits of her labor for her family. She also enjoyed tatting, quilting and sewing.

Esther is survived by her faithful and devoted companion Ralph Rudy; three daughters, Fawn L. Houtz (Rodger), of State College, Lisa D. Zettle and Devon J. Hegarty (Randy), both of Spring Mills; and two sons, Keith D. Zettle (Michele), of York and Kim D. Zettle (Leesa), of Ocala, Fla. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Richard E. "Bud" Duck, of State College. In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie A. Hartley in 1998 and one sister, Irene M. Hazel.

In accordance with Esther's wishes, funeral services will be private. Esther will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spring Mills. Memorial contributions in memory of Esther may be given to the American Cancer Society , 123 S. Sparks Street, State College, Pa. 16801. The Steven R. Neff Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
