Eugene B. Smith, 82, of Bellefonte, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township. Born on April 9, 1931, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Lewis P. and Ida May (Burris) Smith. He married Pearl Jean (Binns) Smith who survives at home.
He was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School in 1948 and Penn State University in 1959. Eugene was a P.E., R.S. and Chief of Construction and Maintenance for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, retiring after 27 years of service. He was a member of Sprucetown United Methodist Church, 268 F&AM, Williamsport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine, Big Bear Rod and Gun Club, Bellefonte Coffee Club and Who’s who in East.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Kathleen J. Corder (Daniel) of Goodyear, AZ, Lorraine M. Mulfinger (David) of Greens Valley Rd, Carol S. Stitt of Altoona. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Nicklaus Lowman, Andrew Lowman, Jennette Mulfinger Sheldon, Daniel Cody Stitt, Anna Mulfinger and Stephen Stitt, and 3 great grandchildren; Ashton Lowman, Melody Lowman and Michael David Sheldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Louise M. Houser, and five brothers; Allen, Earl, Elmer, Gilbert (Infant) and Elwood (Infant).
Friends will be received on Monday, July 8, 2013, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc, 206 N. Spring St, Bellefonte. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:45p.m., followed by full military honors at 8 p.m. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sprucetown Methodist Church, 177 Upper Georges Valley Road, Spring Mills, PA, with Reverend Jeffrey Mugridge officiating.
Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Bellefonte at the convenience of the family.
