Fern F. Carey, 91, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg. Born on August 15, 1922, in German Settlement, Burnside Twp., she was the daughter of the late John A. & Minnie Borger Fye. On July 10, 1942, at the Moshannon United Methodist Church, she married Neil N. Carey, who passed away on November 17, 1994.

Fern attended the Snow Shoe High School. She was employed at Penn State University in the housecleaning department, retiring after 22 1/2years of service. She loved her job and looked forward to going to work every day.

Fern was a member of the Moshannon United Methodist Church for the past 61 years. She was one of the founders of the Moshannon Community Center and worked many years cooking serving food for various occasions. She enjoyed clipping newspaper articles and arranging them in her many scrapbooks. She was called “The Town Historian”. She loved to play cards with anyone that would play. She enjoyed sending greeting cards as well as receiving them. She was an excellent cook and baker. She looked forward to family outings and spending time with friends. She was a devout Christian and adored her church family.

Fern is survived by her two children; Dolores M. Hahn and her companion, Ron Hubler of Snow Shoe and Terry S. Carey of Moshannon. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Anita Hahn, Annette Conrad and her husband, Allen, & David Hahn; three great grandchildren, Hunter Conrad, Macey Hahn, & Jayln Hahn, one brother, Lewis Fye of Clarence, ex-son in law, James F. Hahn of Pine Glen, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, Fern was preceded in death by her son, Gary Carey, great grandson, Tyler Conrad, four brothers and six sisters.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 25, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11am at the Moshannon United Methodist Church, in Moshannon with Pastor Catherine W. Dittman officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Karthaus.
