Floyd J. M. Day, 82, of Bellefonte, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
He was born April 6, 1928 in Williamsport a son of the late Floyd J. M. Day Sr. and Violet McKean Coldron.
On June 16, 1946 he married Beverly L. Dobson who preceded him in death on May 8, 1995.
He attended Blanchard and Mill Hall schools. Always a hard worker, after his father's death when Floyd Jr. was only nine, he took charge of the animals on his father's farm, continuing to raise chickens, and later ran a milk collection route. He also owned and operated a coal, wood, and garbage route in the Howard area and worked as a carpenter for many years. He also served as a constable in the Howard Area. Floyd was a butcher and worked at a sawmill with his grandfather and built his family home. Later in life he was employed at National Gypsum Company for fourteen years and had worked at Rutgers Nease Chemical Company as a chemical operator. .
Mr. Day was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ, the Undine Fire Company, the National Rifle Association, and a former member of the Howard Fire Company.
Among the things Mr. Day enjoyed most were hunting, fishing, camping, spending time in the outdoors, and attending Grange Fair and the Nittany Antique Machinery show.
Surviving him is a daughter, Debra Ann Albright (Bruce) of Howard; one son, David Lewis Day (Jennifer) of Bellefonte; thirteen grandchildren Wayne Fishburn (Nancy), Todd Fishburn (Christina) Heather Fishburn, Shawn Fishburn, Eric Albright (Ivy), Shannon Hilliard (Corby), Jodi Rupert, Justin Albright (Jill), Tracy Yarnell (Jeff), David Day, Travis Tierney, Floyd J. M. Day III, and Joy Day; thirteen great grandchildren, Tyler (Amanda) Fishburn, Josh Fishburn, Tanner Fishburn, Jessica Fishburn, Marley Fishburn, Kodi Crandell, Sara Crandell, Trey Fishburn, Julia Fishburn, Gage Day, Braydon Day, Kayden Hilliard and Caitlyn Albright; and another great grandchild expected in June; one sister Lillian Lomison of Howard; and two former son in laws, Robert Fishburn and John Williams.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters Vonna Kay Fishburn in 1990 and Kim Lee Williams in 2008; and a sister Bertha Lomison.
Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p. m. Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will be at the funeral home, at 10:00 a. m. Monday, May 17, 2010, with pastor Russel Moldovan officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032, Benner Pike, State College, PA.
