Gerald L. Pifer passed from this life on Thursday, March 31, 2011 with his loving wife by his side, at the Veteran's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA after a 4 yr. battle with multiple myeloma.

Gerald was born in Howard on December 16, 1933 a son of Malcolm Pifer and Lucille (Wetzel) Pifer. He and his family moved to Centre Hall in 1949. He was employed by Garbrick Amusements and Manufacturing where he met his beloved wife Sara Jane Garbrick. On November 3, 1957 he married Jane who survives. Gerald is also survived by a daughter Julie L. Jackson and her husband Charles of McClure, and their daughter Heidi May Dunkelberger; one son Gerald Allen Pifer his wife Kelly of Boalsburg, and their children Justin, Kayla, and Brendan; three sisters Sara Bottorf of Wilmington, NC, Faye Cihlar of Berwain, ILL and Edna Spisak of Hershey PA.

A life member of Trinity United Church of Christ, he served as deacon and elder. He enjoyed singing in the men's choir on special occasions. Gerald served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to ¬1957 as a Seaman First Class on the USS St. Paul and USS Brush. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion. He loved camping and traveling with his wife in their motor home visiting all 50 states. He also enjoyed hunting and watching sports especially when his grandchildren were participating.

Friends and family may call from 1 -2 p. m. Monday, April 4, 2011at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p. m. Monday at the funeral home with the Reverend Audra L. Krise officiating.
