Gladys Starcher Rowe, age 91, of Christ the King Manor, Dubois, formerly of rural Spring Mills went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2012. Gladys was born in Akron, Ohio on April 15, 1921. Her parents were Herbert and Oma (Gandee) Starcher. She was married October 26, 1940 to Clifton H. “Wayne" Rowe who preceded her in death, November 28, 2001. She was a member of Spruce Town United Methodist Church, Spring Mills, and also attended Frostburg United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, after relocating to Punxsutawney. She was a member of American Legion Post 779 Auxiliary, Centre Hall. She previously owned and operated her own fast food business, better known as "The 12 Inch Hot Dog Stand" in Mechanicsburg. She later retired from Centre Hall National Bank, Centre Hall. In the early 90’s their residence burned and they relocated to Punxsutawney. As a lover of nature she very much enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and watching the wild animals and birds that inhabited her residence. One of her favorite hobbies was quilting, and she enjoyed meeting with her friends to chat and quilt together. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo and she was known as the bingo queen. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Rowe Good and husband Larry, of Punxsutawney, three grandchildren, Dianna Wolford and husband Brian, Deborah Patterson all of Punxsutawney, and Linda Allison and partner Gillian White of North, Virginia. She was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, October 26, 2012, at Boalsburg Cemetery, Route 322 (South Atherton St.) Boalsburg, PA; led by Donald Bair of Punxsutawney. Donations may be made to Sprucetown United Methodist Church, Spring Mills or to the Frostburg United Methodist Church Frostburg, Pa, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
