Glen A. Wert, 88, of Centre Hall, died Sunday, August 9, 2009, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born November 28, 1920, in Gregg Township, Centre County, PA, a son of the late Paul M. and Grace Naomi Heckman Wert.
He married Geraldine M. Burd, July 3, 1948, who survives at home.
Glenn graduated from Patton High School in 1939. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
He was employed as a corrections officer at Rockview Correctional Institution retiring in 1982. Mr. Wert also owned and operated a painting business for many years.
Mr. Wert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Bellefonte. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cherie L. Wert of State College, one son, John A. Wert and his wife Janice of rural Spring Mills; five grandsons, Michael Stitzer and his wife Cori, Mark Stitzer and his wife Melissa, John Michael Wert and his wife Gretchen, Jeffrey Wert and his wife Becky. and Jason Wert and his fiancee Jenna; two great granddaughters, Meghan and Emily Wert; and one sister. Pauline Jackson of Indiana, PA.
Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 2:00 p. m. at the funeral home with the Rev. F. Jeffrey Mugridge officiating. Burial will be in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall.
