Harold L. Wingard, 82, formerly of Coburn, passed from this life on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Valley View Haven in Belleville. Born on December 22, 1930 in Coburn, Harold was a son of the late Henry and Anna Bookheimer Wingard. Harold was a 1948 graduate of East Penns Valley High School. On April 20, 1954, Harold was united in marriage to Inez M. Ripka who preceded him in death in 2007.

Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring with 21 years of service and having attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in Civil Engineering. Upon returning home, he was employed as a road supervisor for Harris Township in Boalsburg. Harold was a member of the Millheim Fire Co. where he spent much time playing ping pong and shuffleboard. He was very athletic, participating in dart throwing and playing softball in local leagues until the age of 61. Harold loved hunting and especially fishing, spending hours on local rivers and lakes angling for both bass and trout. Whenever possible, you would find him spending time at the family cabin in the mountains. Among his other hobbies was winemaking and preserving and smoking meat.

Harold is survived by two daughters, Sharon McCool (Steve) of Hanover, and Diane Welter (Doug) of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son, Ronnie Wingard of Hanover; four grandchildren, Justin, Cara, Shannon and Derek and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Doyle Wingard (Downa) of Tallmadge, OH. In addition to his wife, Harold was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Fetterolf, Jean Hassinger and Fleeta Colyer and three brothers, Jay Wingard, Henny Wingard and Charlie Wingard.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Chris Korn officiating. Harold will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim.
