Harry P. Hassinger, 90, of Boalsburg died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Wynwood House in Boalsburg.

Born May 10, 1926 in Oak Hall, he was the son of the late Ralph T. and Nancy M. (Johnson) Hassinger.

On July 23, 1949 he married Luella F. Homan who survives in Boalsburg.

Harry was a graduate of State College Area High School, Class of 1944. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on ship LSM 262 in the South Pacific (Hawaii, Philippines, Guam, Iwo Jima, Japan, Okinawa and Pearl Harbor) and an US Airforce veteran during the Korean War. He was the Post Master at the Boalsburg Post Office, retiring June 5, 1985 after 20 years of service.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, State College Masonic Lodge #700 F&AM (Blue Lodge), the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, SPRS 32, Valley of Williamsport, Jaffa Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Altoona, a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and a Class A member of the American Legion Post #779. He was also a Life member of the Elks B.P.O.E Lodge # 1600 of State College and the Boalsburg Fire Co.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy L. Leonard (Chuck) Boalsburg, and LuAnn M. Yearick (Greg) of Centre Hall; two sons, Denny L. (Elizabeth) of San Antonio TX, and Ronald H. (Darlene) of Julian; one brother, Richard K. (Margaret) of Ebensburg; one sister, Anna Stearns of State College; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Eskew and two brothers, Phillip S. and Ralph T. “Tom”.

Friends will be received at 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with the Reverend Brent Book officiating. Interment with military honors in accord will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
