Harry Elery McCloskey, 88, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, surrounded by his closest family, at the home of his daughter Pam, with whom he has resided, at rural Center Hall.

Harry was born April 30, 1924 at Beech Creek, a son of the late John and Verna Young McCloskey.

He was married to the former Roberta Christine Edwards who preceded him in death.

Harry went to work on a Dairy farm at age sixteen. He then served his country in U. S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class, earning the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and a World War II Victory Medal. He also served in the U. S. Army reserves until his discharge on March 31, 1962. After the war, he worked as a truck driver for Lycoming County Construction Company, later working on a dairy farm again; and finally went to work for Drake Chemical Company in Lock Haven until his retirement.

Mr. McCloskey was a life member of the American Legion at Avis. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed cooking and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time out of doors around Pam’s house and spending time in the mountains.

Surviving Harry are his six daughters, Pam D. Treaster and husband Tim of Centre Hall, Linda Barner and her husband Richard of Beech Creek, Patricia Styers and husband James of Enola, Romna "Jean" Dennis and husband Rockey of North Carolina, Rose Entz of Antes Fort and Jane McCloskey of Carlisle; eight grandchildren, Destiney Treaster, Jason and Christopher Lapriola, David Styers, Alicia Pedigree, Sherry Williams, Nancy Arroyo, and Bill Tressler Jr.; eleven great grandchildren; one sister Anna Jane Young and husband Wilbur of Avis; two brothers Clyde and Charles McCloskey both of Lock Haven; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters Louise Tressler and Mary McCloskey; a son Harry McCloskey Jr.; four sisters, Carrie Zeigler, Minnie Eisenhower, Margaret Kellander and Mary Shaffer; and two brothers John and Thomas McCloskey.

Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p. m. Saturday. February 23, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Jody Reese officiating. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the funeral services at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
