Harry Richard “Dick” Bailey, 87, of Boalsburg, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at The Fairways at Brookline Village.

Born March 12, 1924, in Boalsburg, he was a son of the late Harry C. and Viola Segner Bailey. On October 27, 1950, he married Evelyn Henry, who survives.

He is also survived by three children, Linda M. Musser and her husband, Robert, of Aaronsburg, Lee W. Bailey and his wife, Debra, of Mifflinburg, and Jenny L. Bailey of Boalsburg; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by three brothers, Sam, Frank and Robert and three sisters, Virginia, Christina and Mary.

He served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Corporal.

He worked for Rothrock Forestry District as a forester and forest fire observer at Little Flat Tower; then he became a corrections officer for Rockview State Penitentiary.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg and of the Old Fort American Legion, Post 779. He was a Forest Fire Warden for over 50 years.

He loved to entertain friends and family with his wit (having an endless supply of jokes) and knowledge of life and Boalsburg history.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a charter member of the Harris Township Fish and Game Association. One of his life’s greatest joys was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 25, at Zion Lutheran Church with Reverend Brent Book officiating.

Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
