Obituary of Harvey Augustus Emel, 96

Harvey Augustus Emel, 96, of Bellefonte, formerly of Jacksonville, passed away on Sunday July 30, 2017 in Bellefonte. He was born in Milroy on May 2, 1921 a son of the late Joseph S. and Cora B. Wagner Emel. He was preceded by his wives Hilda Houdeshell Emel, and then Wanda Emery Emel.

Harvey was a machinist for Cerro in Bellefonte for 29 years retiring in 1978. He proudly served his country in the South Pacific Theatre during the 2nd World War. He received several bronze stars as well as other decorations. He was the oldest living veteran in Centre County.

He was a past member of the Howard Lions Club and he enjoyed working in his wood shop and garden.He enjoyed helping others and listening to music and playing the Mandolin in his younger years.He also liked yard sales and in later years became an avid birdwatcher. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by six children, Robert D, ( Kathi) of Howard, Susan E. Green of Howard, David L. ( Vikki) of New York, Jeffrey L.( Theresa) of Philipsburg, Karen ( George) Seyler of Loganton, and Hollie ( Paul) Zimmerman of Bellefonte, and many grandchildren, great-grand and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded by a son, Gregory Emel and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 2,2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church 217 Main St. Beech Creek,Pa 16822 with Pastors Randy Perry and Cindy Killinger officiating.Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Romola Cemetery with military rites.
