Obituary of Harvey R. Gamble , 96

Harvey R. Gamble, 96, of Centre Hall, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Gamble was born May 15, 1915, in Fayette Township, Allegheny County, a son of the late Franklin and Emma Gamble. After graduating from McDonald High School he earned his degree from Penn State University.

During World War II he served with the U. S. Coast Guard in the Pacific and after specialized training at MIT his unit managed the original military form of the GPS we know today.

He spent his career working as an Agricultural Engineer for Eastern States and Agway. He advised crop farmers and orchard growers on pest and weed control in the tri state area. Favorite things included Penn State football, Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, traveling gardening, hunting and golfing with friends from PA and Florida.

On August 10, 1940 he married Mary and they enjoyed 69 years plus together. Mary preceded him in death March 22, 2010.

Harvey is survived by his brother Glenn; sons Richard and David; and daughter Marilyn; granddaughters, Julie, LuAnn and Betsy; great granddaughters, Alyson, Katelyn, Hailey, and Ryleigh; and a great grandchild due in March of 2012 and many nieces and nephews.

Following his wishes there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Centre Hall Lions Club, P. O. Box 349, Centre Hall, PA 16828; to assist those struggling with sight problems.
