Helen K. Hugar, 88, formerly of Karthaus, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Penn Highlands in Dubois. Born on March 23, 1928, in Glen Iron, PA. she was the daughter of the late Stuart and Louella Bowersox Bingaman. On May 18, 1946, in Hartleton, she married Kenneth H. Hugar, Sr. who passed away on March 4, 2011.

Helen was member of the Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church in Karthaus. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Karthaus Volunteer Fire Co. and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8386 in Frenchville.

Helen drove for R&A Bus Company for many years. Her passengers, special needs children, would brighten her days. She loved to see their eyes light up each and every day as they entered the bus. And of course, she always had a treat to give them as they departed the bus.

Helen was a faithful wife, loving mother, and a beautiful soul to her grandchildren and a warm hearted friend. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her trips to the “Hugar Family Camp”. She treasured her times spent there with family and friends.

Helen was an avid collector of spoons and pencil sharpeners. She enjoyed taking ceramic classes and made a lot of gifts for family and friends. Her greatest joy was teaching the grandchildren how to fish for the blue gills in the pond.
Helen is survived by her three sons; Kenneth H. Hugar, Jr of Keewaydin, Thomas L. Hugar and his wife, Joyce, of Clearfield, and Geary L. Hugar and his wife, Connie, of Karthaus, step daughter, Darlene Clark and her husband, Jim, of Oak Hill.

Also surviving Helen is a brother, Donald Bingaman and his wife, Miriam, of Mifflinburg, a sister, Lois Sheesley and her husband, Paul, of Mifflinburg, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Along with her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by two grandchildren; Kenneth Hugar, III and Wendy Hugar, daughter in-law, Carol Hugar, brother, Bob Bingaman, and four sisters; Jean Swards, Cheryl Duke, Nancy Pretzman, and Darlene Benfer.

In accordance with Helen’s wishes, all services will be private. She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Keewaydin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Karthaus Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 9, Karthaus, PA 16845.
