Hugh J. Runkle, Jr., 95, of Bellefonte, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015, at his home. Born on March 21, 1920, in Boggs Township, he was the son of the late Hugh J. Runkle, Sr. and Gertrude Felmelee Aikey Runkle. In November 1940, in Cumberland, MD., he married Flora Louise Cain Runkle, who preceded him in death in 2000.

He attended the Linden Hall School System.
Hugh retired from the Rockview State Correctional Facility.

He was a Corporal who served in the United States Army in the Tank Battalion, Armored Division from 1944 until 1946. He served in France and Germany. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal the EAMETheatre Medal with a Bronze Star and also the Victory Medal.

Hugh was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1600 of Bellefonte.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hublersburg.

Hugh is survived by one daughter, Janet Runkle Hall and her husband Merrill, four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Helen King.

Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Philip Runkle, a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Hall, four sisters, and three brothers.

There will be a public visitation held Monday, December 21, 2015, from 9am until 11am, the time of the service, at the Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 North Spring Street, Bellefonte, PA.

Funeral services will be held Monday, at 11am, at the funeral home with the Rev. Keith Koch officiating.

Burial will follow at Eagle Cemetery in Boggs Township.
