Imogene was born to Fred Sigafoos and Imo Darling, January 2, 1923. She became a nurse, and eventually played a key role in the New Jersey Nurses Association, fighting for better conditions and pay for nurses in the 1970’s. Imogene married Roy Stanley Sainburg and had 3 children, Laurie, Jackie, and Bob (of SC), all of whom she raised as a single mother, working as a nurse and teacher. She has 4 loving grandsons, Dan, Tim, and Lucas, (Bob and Eileen’s children), and Henry (Laurie’s son), and one loving grand-daughter in law, Kendyl (married to Dan), and one great grandchild, Jack.

he was very close to her grandchildren, and was an influential part of their lives. She loved holidays, especially Passover and Thanksgiving, when she loved to prepare and host the feasts, often with Margaret and Rene’ and their family, as well as many different friends every year. Eileen brightened her life and always made sure that Grandma was a central part of the family. Imogene loved and valued Margaret, Rene, Sue, Alexis, and Elisabeth along with many wonderful friends, relatives, and neighbors both in State College and other home towns in NJ and NY. Imogene loved parks, outdoors, flowers, and walking, and was happiest when she was with her family. We loved her with all our hearts, and will miss her dearly. Rest in peace, Grandma.

Her family will have a private memorial service. Donations can be made in her name to Greenhill’s Village, 301 Farmstead Lane State College, PA.
