Irene M. Bowman, 85, of State College, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. She had been in hospital and rehab facilities for the past 5 weeks after injuries from a fall.

Born December 28, 1927 in Seminole, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Maria Pincelli Magagnotti. Irene was a graduate of New Bethlehem High School, New Bethlehem, Class of 1946. She married James D. Bowman on August 20, 1951 shortly before he shipped off to Korea. They celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage and she was often heard to say that they never had a “big” argument their entire marriage. Her husband died August 25, 2012.

Irene was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was known by friends and family as a wonderful homemaker and hostess and prepared meals and desserts that were unmatched. She was employed earlier in her life at Sylvania Electric Co., Brookville. She was a bookkeeper for the S.S. Kresge Co, Erie and J.E. Reese Plumbing, State College. She also was employed by Centre Lanes, State College where she worked at the counter and was a bowling instructor. Her last employment outside the home was for Fashion Warehouse in Akron, Ohio.

Irene is survived by a sister, Dora Couse of Erie; two sisters in-law, Jean Pratt and her husband Bob and Anne Brunner and her husband Marc; several nieces and nephews and many loving neighbors and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Irene was predeceased by four brothers; Silvio, Almo, John, and Rudolph Magagnotti.

Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Our Lady of Victory, 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, with the Reverend Monsignor David Lockard officiating.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in St. Charles Cemetery, New Bethlehem.
