Obituary of Iva Mascolo, 82

Sue Mascolo, 82, of State College, passed away peacefully at her home on November 28, 2018.

Born June 25, 1936, in Clark County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Ella Alexander Christopher.

Sue's husband, Richard Mascolo, survives at home. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Margo Mascolo of Lancaster and Amy DeMay and her husband, Christopher, of Hummelstown; her grandchildren RJ, Kaitlyn and Jessica of Hummelstown; her brother Andrew Jackson Christopher and his wife, Mickey, of Orange Park, Florida and sister-in-law Betty Mascolo of Oakdale, L.I, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Sue pursued lifelong education. She graduated from High School in Oxford, Ohio. At the beginning of her career, she received her certificate in Cosmetology, using those skills to make others feel beautiful. She attended classes both at University of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania State University. Additionally, Sue went on to become one of the first graduates of the County Commission Association with an Associates Degree in County Administration.

Sue lived a life of service to others. She served as a Girl Scout Leader in New York. She worked with the Office of Aging as a Center Director both in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Sue worked as a Legislative Aide for Representative Lynn Herman in the early 1990s, until she was elected and served as a Centre County Commissioner from 1996 to 2000. Following this role, she took on many volunteer positions serving as a member or chairperson of various organizations including the MidState Consortium, Board of Elections and the Private Industry Council. Recently, she served as Ferguson Township Representative to COG Centre Region Parks and Recreation Authority (Past Chairman) and served as President of the State College Area Women's Club. She passed away while still employed part-time with State Representative Scott Conklin as a Legislative Aide and Senior Citizens Advocate.

Sue was a member of St Paul's United Methodist Church, State College, and enjoyed attending services there on Sunday mornings. She also enjoyed gardening, spending time at the beach, her nightly game shows of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, listening to classical music, volunteering her time to projects that benefitted the community and spending time with her many friends and family.

Visitation will take place from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College and from 10 until 11 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 250 E. College Avenue, State College.

A Funeral Service in celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Reverend Rebecca McGee officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Sue asked that donations be made to Center Region Parks & Recreation Authority, in memory of Sue and Dick Mascolo.
