J. Walter Albright, 88, of Spring Mills, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at his home. Born in Spring Mills on June 26, 1925, Walter was a son of the late John B. and Mary Weagley Albright. He attended Gregg Township Vocational School, where during the 11th grade he was drafted into the U. S. Army. Walter was wounded in combat on March 21, 1945 and received The Purple Heart and Star Medal. Upon his return home, Walter went to work at Penn State University in the janitorial department retiring in 1987 from the Buckhout Building with 28 years of service. On September 15, 1966, Walter married Dorothy D. Stirrett at the former St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Spring Mills. Mrs. Albright survives at their home.

Walter attended New Hope Lutheran Church in Spring Mills. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, past president of the Spring Mills Cemetery Association and a member of the Gregg Township Fire Co., the 572nd AAA Battery D Battalion, the Spring Mills Senior Citizens, the Black Panther Riding/Camping Club and the Penns Valley Health and Welfare Association. Walter enjoyed camping and fixing clocks.

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by one son, Steven Stirrett of Spring Mills. Walter was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Albright.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church in Spring Mills on Thursday, March 20, from 6-8 pm . The funeral will be held at the church on Friday, March 21 at 10:30 am with Pastor Michael Price officiating. Walter will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spring Mills. Because of allergies to flowers, the family kindly suggests contributions in memory of Walter be given to New Hope Lutheran Church, Po Box 96, Spring Mills, Pa. 16875 or to the Gregg Township Fire Co, Po Box 82, Spring Mills, Pa. 16875.
