Jack H. “Jake” “Pappy” White, 83, of Centre Hall, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at home.

He was born May 11, 1931, at Centre Hall, a son of the late Floyd and Florence Hackett White.

During the Korean War, Jack served with Headquarters Battery 737th AAA Gun Battalion out of Fort Tilden, NY, earning the rank of Corporal. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.

From 1951 until his service in the Korean War, Jack worked for Penn Line Service. Upon his return from the service in 1954 he went to work for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission at the Pleasant Gap Hatcheries, retiring in 1988. Mr. White also served as an advisor and Scout Master of Troop 45 in Milesburg. In addition, he belonged to and worked with the Order of the Arrow Lodge 103 and the Monaken Lodge.

He was a former member and attendee of Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church; a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, a life member of Pleasant Gap American Legion Post 867, and a life member of the Pleasant Gap Fire Company, and held a membership with the Centre Volunteer District Fireman.

Jack enjoyed hunting, especially spending time at the hunting camp and fishing. He enjoyed and derived fulfillment from his work with the Boy Scouts more than any of his other activities.

Surviving Jack is a sister in law Mrs. George (Miriam) White of Milroy and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews including a nephew, Wayne L. White who was like a son to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Floyd White, and a half sister Marjorie Hindman.

Friends will be received form 2-4 and 6-9 p. m. Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service P. C. 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. The funeral will be at 10:00 a. m. Friday, December 5, 2014, at the funeral home with the Reverend Carl D. Campbell officiating

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Milroy.
