James A. Corman, 74, of Bellefonte, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.

Born November 3, 1936 he was a son of the late Dr. Paul M. and Thelma Newmeyer Corman.

James was Director of Purchasing at Ruetgers-Nease Chemical Company retiring in December 1993 after 30 years of service. He also held positions there in research and development, production, and sales.

James graduated from Bellefonte Area High School in 1954 and Franklin and Marshall College in 1958 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. He became an Eagle Scout in 1953 with Bellefonte Scout Troop 36 and was a member of the American Chemical Society and Chi Phi Fraternity.

James served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, serving active duty in Germany during the Berlin crisis as a radar operator.

James always had a passion for cars, enjoyed college football and spending time with his family and friends.

James attended the First Presbyterian Church in Bellefonte.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Gross) Corman of 50 years; a daughter, Kimberly Smeltzer and husband Dondi of Pleasant Gap; two grandchildren, Kelsey and Courtney Singer; a brother, Paul R. Corman of Howe, IN; a sister Constance Lacy and husband Chip of Midlothian, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son James Scott Corman.

There will be no public visitation at his request and the funeral will be private at the convenience of the family.
