James B. Hartman, 93, of Annapolis, MD, formerly of Lancaster, Bellefonte, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Crownsville, MD.
He was born August 28, 1916, in Bellefonte, a son of the late C. Edward and Marjorie B. Miller Hartman.
On January 1, 1938, he married Kathryn H. Snyder who preceded him in death on November 1, 1999.
Mr. Hartman is survived by his daughter Barbara Ann Rhoads and her husband Richard of Annapolis, MD, one granddaughter, Gretchen Jones and her husband Chris; and one great granddaughter Camille Jones of Arnold, MD.
James graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1934. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Hartman was employed by West Penn Power Company for twelve years, then worked at Rockview State Correctional Institution, retiring as the Infirmary Supervisor in 1976.
While living in the Bellefonte area he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte where he served as a trustee and chairman of the church board. While living in Annapolis he was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church there. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired Employees and V. F. W. Post 1600 in Bellefonte.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA with the Reverend Russell L. Sauerwein officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
