James J. “Jim” Ash, 88, of Centre Hall, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Wynwood House in Centre Hall. Born on December 4, 1929, in Ashland, KY, he was the son of the late James W. and Doris Heffner Ash. He married Marjorie Ann “Marge” Buse in 1954. They shared 62 wonderful years together before she passed away on October 27, 2016.

Jim was a 1948 graduate of Berwick High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954, earning the rank of S/Sgt . While stationed at Ellsworth Air Force base in South Dakota, he met his future wife Marge. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service.

Jim worked in various places and held many positions before going to work as an Engineer at Chemcut in State College. He retired in 1994.
Jim was a very active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall. The social room of the church, Ash Hall, was dedicated to him for all his work and fundraising efforts. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and working in his yard. He was an airplane enthusiast. He had a lot of knowledge on airplanes, especially the older ones and enjoyed sharing his knowledge.

Jim is survived by his two sons; Timothy J. Ash, Sr. and his wife, Shirley, and Robert W. Ash and his wife, Michelle, both of Centre Hall, five grandchildren; Angel, Tim “T.J.”, Christina, Mindy, and Abbey, and five great grandchildren; Paige, Matthew, Kayla, Allison, and Austin.

Also surviving Jim is his brother, W. Tom Ash and his wife, Madalyn, of Destin, FL and his sister, Virginia A. Warren of Tucson, AZ.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 11am at the Grace United Methodist Church, 127 S Pennsylvania Ave, Centre Hall with the Rev. Mark Messner officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jim’s family will handle all floral tributes. They ask in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Grace United Methodist Church, PO Box 292, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
