Lieutenant Colonel James Thomas “Jim” Kuhn of State College, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at home.

Born February 26, 1960 in Wyandotte, Michigan, he was the son of Thomas Allen and Cora Beryl Gaddy Kuhn who preceded him in death. He married Maria Warfield Taylor, on January 6, 2011.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jason Thomas Kuhn and his wife, Stacey of Wilmington, NC and Matthew Hunter Kuhn of Richmond, VA; two step-sons, Brendan Warfield Taylor of Philadelphia and David Harris Taylor and his wife, Shelby of Dallas TX, and his faithful dog Daisy.

Jim was a graduate of Castle Heights High School in Lebanon, TN in 1978. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Sanford University in Birmingham, AL in 1982 and a Masters of Business Degree from Averett University in Danville, VA. Jim was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps and served honorably for 26 years. He was the President of Clarity Development, Inc., which focused on communication and advertising for the military. He spent much of his post-military doing charity work and raising awareness for the United States' armed forces and veterans.

A scoutmaster, some of Jim's favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping and all outdoor activities. Ever the entrepreneur, Jim was always planning his next business venture. His love of family, friends, Southern food, country, and dogs was plain for all to see.

Jim's vivaciousness, optimism, love of life and sense of humor were infectious, making it impossible not to laugh while spending time with him. He will perhaps best be remembered by the many evenings he would sit outside enjoying a glass of Bourbon and a cigar; talking, joking, and laughing with friends and family.

Visitation will be 2-5 pm on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.

Funeral service will be held at 2 on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home with Celebrant Jackie Hook officiating.

Plans are being made to lay Jim to rest in Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the outreach program his son Matt works for, the Richmond Cycling Corps, and the Marine Corps Semper Fi fund.
