James L. Snyder, Sr., 73, of Port Matilda, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at his home. He was born in Mifflin County, PA, on November 2, 1939. Jim was the son of the late Lester R. and Anna Mae Snook Snyder. He married Judith A. Shaffer on January 4, 1959; they would have celebrated their 54th anniversary on January 4, 2013. Jim was a long-time employee of Penn State, retiring in 1994. For many years, he coached little league and teener league baseball teams in the Port Matilda and State College area. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching football. Jim was a member of the Undine Fire Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son James L. Snyder, Jr., at home, and daughters Tammy Massa of Harrisburg, PA, and Wendy Bathgate of Middlebury Center, PA; grandchildren Lisa Kennedy and John J. Bathgate; great grandchildren Robbie and Chris Bathgate; sister Gladys (Joe) Hassinger and brother David (Carolyn) Snyder, both of McClure, PA. Jim was predeceased by a brother and three sisters. Following Jim's wishes, he was cremated and there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
