James W. Chandler, 72, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born on January 24, 1945, in Killen, AL, he was the son of the late Luther and Lola V. Barringer Chandler. On February 13, 1968, at St. John United Church of Christ in Bellefonte, he married Dorothy M. McClellan, who passed away on April 21, 2009. On September 29, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Punxsutawney, he married Nancy Tuck, who passed away on May 13, 2013.

James attended the Lexington School District. He was enlisted in the United States Army from 1963 through 1965.

James was employed as a laborer at Cerro Metal, retiring after 37 years of service. While working at Cerro, he worked part time as a dispatcher for the Bellefonte Police Department. After retirement, James became a bus driver, driving for the State College Area School District, then the Bellefonte Area School District and Fullington Bus Co. until the spring of 2017.

James was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Bellefonte VFW Post 1600, Bellefonte American Legion Post 33, where he had served as Chaplin. He also served as Past District Commander for the American Legion. James was also a member of the Bellefonte Moose Lodge 206, Bellefonte Elks Lodge 1094, and a life member of the Logan Fire Company, and held memberships of other various clubs and civic organizations.

James had a love for music. He enjoyed fishing and socializing with family and friends. He could pick up a conversation with anyone. If you were to ask James what his biggest accomplishment in life would be, he would answer, “I have excelled in relaxation”.

James is survived by his four children; Holly A. Wilson and her husband, Thomas, of Bellefonte, Theresa M. Heiser and her husband, Brian, of Centre Hall, Nedra K. Moody and her husband, Wade, of Gettysburg, and James J. Chandler and his wife, Miranda, of Bellefonte. Also surviving are his ten grandchildren; Christopher and Zachary Miller Moody, Hannah Munnell and her fiancé, Ben Miller, Lydia Munnell, Evan and Marisa Heiser, Bryce, Kody, Dalton, and Paxton Chandler, and by his four step grandchildren; Jasmine and Wyatt Krumrine, Keira Wilson, and Alicia Argento.

Along with his parents and two wives, James was preceded in death by his two brothers, Charles and Bobby, James was the last of his generation.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 9-11am at the Faith United Methodist Church at 512 Hughes St. Bellefonte. Memorial service will follow at 11am at the church with Rev. Andrew R. Morgan officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Burial will be private at the Zion Union Cemetery in Zion.
