Jane C. Gillette, 94, of Clarence, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born on August 10, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Emma M. Shive McGowan. On August 28, 1944, she married J. Robert Muirhead who passed away on October 6, 1980. On February 14, 1984, she married Glenwood L. Gillette who died on December 8, 1988.

Jane was a 1939 graduate of Snow Shoe High School and a 1940 graduate from the Hammon School of Beauty Culture. She also earned a Cosmetology Teaching License. Immediately follow graduation, she opened her own beauty shop in Clarence, Jane’s Beauty Shop. She operated her shop until retirement, giving her 75 years of service. She loved being in the hair business and has made a lot of friends over the years.
Jane was a member of the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Chapel in Snow Shoe. She was the Past President of the Alter and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Snow Shoe Lions Club where she was Past President and Secretary. She was very proud to say she was the only female president to date and she held that office for two terms.

Jane enjoyed baking. She was known for her ability to bake beautiful wedding cakes and birthday cakes. In her later years, she was known for baking of cookies and finger rolls. Jane loved theaters. She held season tickets to the Mill Brook Playhouse in Mill Hall. She also attended many shows at the Eisenhower Auditorium and on Broadway in New York City. She enjoyed shopping and eating out. She looked forward to being with her family and friends.

Jane is survived by two step sons; Glen L. Gillette of Stephens City, VA and Gary L. Gillette and his wife, Tammy, of New Bern, NC, step-daughter, Judy Fertig of Bellefonte. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Along with her parents and husbands, Jane was preceded in death by a sister, Marian M. McGowan.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-8pm with Lions Memorial service at 7:40pm and rosary service at 7:45pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11am at the Queen of Archangel’s Roman Catholic Parish Chapel in Snow Shoe with Father Mark Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Centre Count Memorial Park.
