Janet I Gordon (85) passed away peacefully on May 24 at Juniper Village @Brookline; Wellspring Memory Care. She was born on July 19, 1932, the daughter of the late J. William and Bessie Eves Ishler. On August 14, 1955 she married Robert C. Gordon who died on May 29, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Wesley C. Rishel; her brothers: Donald, Richard, John, Thomas, and David and her sisters: Lois Walker and Sally Meyer. She is survived by her sister Cindy I Harter, her brothers: Wendell and Philip; her daughters: Kathy (Rod) Bartell and Betsy (Keith) Rishel; her grandchildren: Laura(Matt) Winkelbauer, Ashley (Jeffery) Lamey, Jason (Lena)Bartell, Cassandra (Dave) King, Nathan Bartell; and 8 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Janet graduated from State College High School in 1949 and began her administrative clerical career at Penn State that same year. From 1968-1976 she worked at the Bellefonte School District and later at Centre Community Hospital in medical records. She returned to Penn State in 1980 and worked in Admissions until she retired in 1996. After her retirement she worked part time as a bookkeeper for Bartell & Bartell, Ltd.

Janet was a loving and generous mother and grandmother. She was an avid football fan and never missed a Penn State home football game. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pleasant Gap and Axeman. Janet often volunteered to help where needed. She served as an election official in Spring township, helped with blood drives for the Red Cross; volunteered at the Penn State Sport Museum and Visitor’s Center, and served in positions for the PA retirees association and her church. She enjoyed walking the streets and hills of Pleasant Gap, vacationing in Cape May, NJ and traveling to many different places throughout the world.

Friends will be received from 12:00 to 1:00 pm Friday, June 1, 2018, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The memorial service will follow immediately at 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend David Hersh, Grane Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
