Obituary of Janet Wood, 86

Janet Heaton Wood, 86, of Martha Furnace, PA died Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born at home, a daughter of the late Virgil and Velta Dillen Heaton. She was the beloved wife of L. Paul Wood who preceded her in death.

Janet was a graduate of Worth Township High School. Following graduation she attended flight attendant school, as well as educational enrichment at Penn State University. She was employed for many years at Centre Hardware in State College as an accountant.

She was a member of the Bald Eagle Baptist Church, where she served as the sunday school secretary and sang in the choir.
She was an avid Penn State football fan and a season ticket holder for many years. She was a regular contributor to the Nittany Lion Club, as well as the Quarterback club. She also was a regular contributor to WPSU and many other charitable organizations.

Janet and her husband loved to travel. Their favorite trips were to many of the Penn State Bowl games. Janet loved gardening and flowers. She always had the most beautiful flower beds on Steele Hollow Road. She loved sharing the fruits of her garden with neighbors and friends.

She is survived by one brother, John Heaton, Port Matilda. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Heaton and Dale Heaton; and a sister Joy Brantner.

Public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Bald Eagle Baptist Church at 6644 South Eagle Valley Road Port Matilda, PA with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM with the Pastor Benjamin Lee officiating. Burial will be at the Williams Cemetery in Huston Township.
