"Joe" Lazelle Melvin,80, of Runville Road, Bellefonte, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 in his home. He was born in Bellefonte on March 11, 1933, a son of the late Lazelle Rex and Dorothy Wright Lowery. He was married to Miriam Maxine Stamm, who preceded him in death, and then he married Mary Spayd Hibbler, who survives at their home.
Joe was the owner and operator of L. Melvin Lowery & Son Concrete Contractors for many years, and was a member of the Milesburg United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Rock Spring Shooting Club for many years where he garnered many trophies. He belonged to the Beartown Hunting Camp. He was an avid sportsman and hunter. Joe also enjoyed racing dirt bikes. He was also a member of the State College Elks Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Addleman of Missouri and Sandra (Shaun) Knight of Pine Grove Mills; two step-daughters, Beth Thomas and Tanya Snyder; one son, Joseph Melvin (Linda) Lowery of Julian; two sisters, Peggy Marter and Lois Mumper; one brother, Richard Lowery; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Sally Hoy and Martha Gravish, and brothers Gerald William Lowery and Lloyd Allen Lowery.
Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at the Milesburg Church, 301 Turnpike St., Milesburg, PA, with Rev. Brian D. Vasey officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience.
