John J. Thompson, 96, of Pine Glen, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on December 5, 1918, in Woodland, he was the son of the late Fay D. and Frances E. Forcey Thompson. On June 14, 1947, in Jersey Shore, he married Lois M. Fenstermaker, who survives at home.

John attended the Clearfield High School. In 1934, his family moved to Nippenose Valley. He started working at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven in 1937. In 1941, he entered into the US Army, serving in Whales, England, France, Belgium, Luxenburg, and Germany. He was active in the battles of the Normandy Campaign, Lincoln Forest, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, and Ardennes. John received the Good conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars for his years of service.

After the war, John went to work as Foreman, then a Division Manager at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven. In 1968 he moved to Pine Glen and was a Production Manager at Piper Aircraft in Quehanna.

John was a member of the Pine Glen United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Frenchville VFW Post 8386.

John is survived by his wife of 67 years, children; Patricia A. Zetts and her husband, George, of Apollo, Gregory C. Thompson and his wife, Shelley, of Pine Glen, and Wayne R. Thompson and his wife, Elana, of Port Matilda, seven grandchildren; Michael Thompson and his wife, Nicole, of Pine Glen, Jade Thompson and his wife, Tracina, of Julian, Curtis Thompson and his wife, Yilka, of Pine Glen, Tracy Buzalka and her husband, Rich, of Carlisle, Mark Zetts and his wife, Elizabeth, of Pittsburgh, Robyn Rupert and her husband, Joel, of Charlottesville, VA; and Ian Thompson of Stormstown, ten great grandchildren; Megan Thompson, Sutton Thompson, Sydney Thompson, Dylan Buzalka, Madison Buzalka, Nolan Buzalka, Emma Thompson, Talon Thompson, Lily Zetts, and Anthony Rupert, and one sister, Grace Sweeley of Jersey Shore.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by six brothers; Howard, Robert, William, Cecil, Bruce, and Guy, two sisters; Violet Williams and Hazel Barner, brother in-laws; Ralph Williams, Paul Barner, and Bob Wagner, and sister in-laws; Doris and Martha.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 2-5pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 7pm at the funeral home with Pastor Catherine W. Dittman officiating. Full military honors will be given following the funeral services. Burial will be private at the Pine Glen Cemetery.
