John W. Strouse, 89, of State College, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Centre Crest Nursing Home.

Born October 1, 1923, in State College, he was the son of the late Harry Leroy “Roy” and Helen Ralston Strouse. On March 6, 1948 he married Ethel L. Corl, who survives.

He is also survived by four children, Ronald A. Strouse and his wife, Deborah M.R.; Sylvia S. Way and her husband, Clifford Jr; David L. Strouse and his wife, Melissa, all of State College; and Molly A. Kline and her husband, Kenneth Jr., of Spring Mills; nine grandchildren: Andrew Strouse and his wife, Anna; Amber Olkowski and her husband, Ryan; Alidia Strouse; Angela Genito and her husband, Dennis; Amy Bowen and her husband, Marcus; Matthew Way, Curtis Strouse, Jacob Strouse, Miranda Kline; and two great grandchildren; Vincent Strouse and Cole Strouse.

He was a third generation farmer on his family farm for sixty years retiring in 1990.

John was a member of the Pine Hall Lutheran Church in State College and served on the church council. He was also a member of Baileyville Sportsmen’s Club and Pine Grove Mills Men’s Chorus.

He enjoyed gardening and camping with family, Gospel and Blue Grass music, visiting Belleville and Honey Creek Inn on Wednesdays and traveling to Florida with friends.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Visitation will also be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Pine Hall Lutheran Church. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.at the church with the Rev. Susan Williamson officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
