John Henry “Jack” Yearick, 92, of Centre Hall, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Wynwood House in Centre Hall.

Born December 5, 1924 in Lewistown he was a son of the late Abraham Nelson and Catherine Katrina (Hunter) Yearick.

On July 13, 1947, at the Evangelical Church in Lewistown he married Tress Ann Bersinger Yearick who preceded him in death on February 15, 2012.

Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from January 12, 1944 until May 6, 1946, having been stationed in England and the Philippines. He earned a Certificate of Recognition from the Pennsylvania State Council of Defense for serving as a Fire Watcher and for his service with the Auxiliary Police, as a civilian during WWII.

He was employed at Rockview State Correctional Institution as a Correction Officer, retiring after 28 years of service. Early in life he worked at the Arrow Shirt Factory and in the family freight transportation Business known as Yearick Dray Company in Lewistown.

John was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall. A life member of the Progress Grange in Centre Hall and the Pomona Grange and he served on the board of Grange Fair for five years. He was also a life member the Centre Hall, Fame and Pleasant Gap Fire Companies and a former member of the Black Panther Riding Club.

Jack greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was an avid Penn State, Steeler and a “Fighting Irish” Notre Dame Football fan, who also enjoyed professional basketball and horseback riding.

He is survived by one daughter, Ann Eminhizer (Brent) of Drifting; one son, John N. (Connie) of Centre Hall; two grandchildren, Michael Eminhizer (Rachel) and Brandi Yearick-Brodzina (Roy); a grand-daughter -in-law, Meriam Yearick; and four great grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Eminhizer and Dakota and Mason Brodzina.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a cherished grandson, Bryan N. Yearick and two brothers, Richard F. and William B. Yearick.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church, 127 S. Pennsylvania Avenue Centre Hall. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the church with the Reverend Mark Messner officiating. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park with military honors in accord.
