Joseph A. Blood, 87, of State College, died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at his residence.

Born January 22, 1925 in Lock Haven, PA he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Jessie Brown Blood.

On October 19, 1985 in State College he married Betsy (Frank) Zimmerman, who survives at home.

Joe was a 1941 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

He was a WWII army sergeant/squad leader with the Anti Tank (Gun Crew). He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/2 bronze stars, worked for American Color and Chemical Corp from 1947 until his retirement of 1983. He then worked at The Meadows in the Maintenance department until his retirement in March 2010.

He was a member of the Park Forest Baptist Church. American Legion Post # 245, and a former member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Sons of Italy, the Elks and the Moose all in Lock Haven.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mary M. Graves and Laurie Blood; four sons, Joseph A. Jr., William K, Randy A. and Anthony Blood; two step-daughters Charla J. Zimmerman Polk and Corinne M. Zimmerman Rossman; one step son, Dayne A. Zimmerman (Allison); one sister, Frances Weaver (Donald); one brother, Marlin Blood (Diane), 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Richardson and Josephine Weaver.

Family will receive friends 7-9 PM, Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College.

A Memorial Service will be held during worship services at 10:45 AM, Sunday January 29, 2012 at the Park Forest Baptist Church, 3030 Carnegie Drive, State College, with the Reverend Dr. James P. Nolten officiating. Entombment will be private at Centre County Memorial Park with military honors in accord.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Park Forest Baptist Church.
