Joseph (Joe) Martinec, 92, returned to his heavenly home on March 25, 2016. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him and ultimately gave him peace.

Joe was born to the late Andras and Anna (Kubis) Martinec, in Johnstown, PA, on March 9, 1924 He was a member of the Green Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Spring Mills, PA from 1958 until present. He served on the church board as deacon from 1961 thru 1987 and taught several bible classes. During WWII he served in the United States Navy as a gunners mate on the USS Overton and was part of several Pacific campaigns including Iwo Jima.

He married, Dona E Harrison on December 29, 1946, in Johnstown PA. Together they raised three children with patience, discipline and love. From the very beginning, they dedicated their children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels.

Joe is survived by his wife Dona, his son David (Jan) and daughter Christine Martinec-Evans-Mitchell; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers George and Robert. . He is preceded in death by his parents: his son Thomas; his sisters, Rose Kristof, Elaine Heilman, Suzanne Doucette, Julia Sakso, Jessie McCabe-Schuller and brothers John, Paul and, Andrew.

Joe was a master carpenter and an educator at heart. He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He retired from GM McCrossin as a member of local carpenters union 950. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Lord.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at Green Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 301 Brush Mountain Road, Spring Mills, PA, 16875. Friday, April 1 at 1:30 PM. Donations to Green Grove Brethren in Christ Church in lieu of flower are gladly accepted.
