Kathleen “Kay” A. Winter, 83, of Boalsburg, died on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville.

Born August 12, 1931 in Altoona, she was the daughter of Harry C. and Catherine Swope Springer. Kay married John “Jack” A. Winter, in June of 1956, who survives at Valley View Retirement Community.

Kay is also survived by her son, Mark Winter and wife, Susan Rippin, of Wilmington, DE; and daughter, Jennifer Case and husband, David, of Mechanicsburg, PA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Christine McKee and Vina Rhule; and her brother, William Springer.

Kay was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School.

She worked for Penelec in Altoona as a customer accountant. After her marriage, Kay and Jack moved to Washington D.C., where they were both employed by the National Security Agency for four years. Upon moving to Boalsburg, she worked for Murphy’s Department Store in downtown State College, as administrative assistant to the branch manager. Kay retired from the Penn State Federal Credit Union after 15 years of service.

She was a member of State College Presbyterian Church and Choir and formerly a member of the Altoona Third Presbyterian Church and Choir. She belonged to a local investment club where she acted as Treasurer. She enjoyed attending a weekly prayer meeting with a group of friends. She loved gardening and reading, and camping and touring National Parks with her family. For her extensive support of Jack’s participation in the Penn State Outing Club Ski Patrol at Tussey Mountain, she received the National Ski Patrol Angel Award.

Visitation will be 1:00p.m. until 2:30p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.

Funeral service will follow at 2:30p.m., on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the funeral home with the Reverend Joel Blunk officiating. A reception will follow the service at Windmere Hall, 454 Rolling Ridge Drive, State College.

Burial will be private in Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
