Our beloved mother, Kay A. Brown, of Millheim, passed from this life on Friday, June 30th at Lansdale-Abington Hospital. She was 76. Born March 3, 1941 in Bellefonte, Kay was a daughter of the late Paul R. Byers, Sr. and Lettie E. (Frankenberger) Byers. She was a graduate of the first senior class of Penns Valley Area High School. On July 18, 1959 Kay married John H. Brown who preceded her in death on October 9, 1996.

Kay retired from the Penns Valley Area School District as an Administrative Assistant in the Guidance Department. Kay was a member of the former St. John’s United Church of Christ in Millheim and transferred her membership to Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills when St. John’s closed. She was a former member of the Millheim Borough Council and a member of the American Legion, Keystone Post # 444 Ladies Auxiliary.

Kay had a beautiful personality. She was known for her humor; her smile would light up the room when she walked in. She loved to garden, especially planting and enjoying spring onions. Attending public auctions, eating out and obedience training for her dogs were also activities that Kay enjoyed. Dominoes was another passion of Kays. She and her fellow domino players, Marlene Corl and Mae McLaughlin enjoyed many games around the table. But, perhaps her favorite activity was being with her family at the annual Outer Banks vacations.

Kay is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Herman (Stephen) of Colmar and Beth Brown-Del Toro of Bushkill and her three special fur babies, Meika, Marly and Escadealia. In addition to her husband, Kay was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Stover, and one brother, Paul A. Byers, Jr.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, July 5th at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 6th at 10:00 am with Pastor Dawn Marie Meier officiating. Kay will be laid to rest in Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
