Kurt E. Smith, 53, of Bellefonte and Allentown, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at his home in Allentown.
He was born in Bellefonte on June 21, 1956, to Charles and the late Ruth Rhoads Smith. Kurt graduated from Bellefonte Area High School in 1974, after which he worked for several years as a welder. Following a severe accident in which he crushed his hip, he worked as a manager of a convenience store. His last years, he lived in Allentown where he worked at Sykes (formerly ICT Group) as Medical Claims Liaison. Kurt was first diagnosed with cancer in Oct., 2008. He fought a long hard battle and remained optimistic throughout. He continued to work full-time as he received chemotherapy and radiation treatments. During this time, an "angel" Fay Frederick, of Allentown, came to his aid and became his close friend and care-giver throughout his final days.
Kurt is survived by a son, Kris (Crystal), of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Destiny Smith Irvin (Thomas), of Milesburg; two sisters, Carol S. Confer (Donald), of Mill Hall and Amy K. Maneval, of Elmira, N.Y.; and one grandchild, Haily Irvin.
Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. of Schnescksville has prepared the body for burial. A private memorial service and committal will be held at the convenience of the family.
