L. Patrick Kuhn, 79, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born March 14, 1930, in Altoona, to the late Leroy Maurice and Mary Brawley Kuhn.
When he was 38, he left the religious order he was in. He worked at Penn State until his retirement in 1991. In 1973, he married Ruth White, who survives. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, and the Knights of Columbus, and helped with the prayer chain at Trinity United Methodist Church. As a young man, he coached basketball and football. He loved helping others, was a true Christian and very devoted to his faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Robbie Swanger (Charles); two grandsons, Denny McCloskey (Tracey) and Matthew McCloskey (Erin); three great-grandchildren, Alaina, Talia and Tanner; two sisters, Jean Leberfinger (Charlie-deceased) and Beverly Fabian (Bernie); and a brother, Frances (Linda). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews; and many great friends, especially Tanja, Billy and Janice.
He loved camping, trips and working in his workshop. He enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers. He had a real green thumb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Austin; a niece, Linda; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. He was a great husband and grandfather. He was truly loved.
A public visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct.14, 2009, with a Christian wake service at 7:45 p.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct.15, 2009, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, with Father Valentine J. Bradley officiating. Entombment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park, College Township.
