Lawrence R. Tate passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born in Millheim on June 6, 1924, the son of Lola V. Fishburn.

He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Doris Schriver.

On October 13, 1951 he married Freda M. Bowersox.

Fishy attended East Penns Valley High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 as an airplane mechanic. He retired in 1985 after 29 years of service as a corrections officer at the State Correctional Institute at Rockview.

He enjoyed sports, game shows and traveling. Throughout his life, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and was concerned more about others than himself. He will be deeply missed.

Fishy is survived by his wife Freda; children, Sharon Rishel (Kevin), Shelley Ilgen (Alan), Mike Tate and Shawn Kuhlman (George); grandchildren, Nate Ilgen (Jessica), Morgan Ilgen, Kyle Rishel, Kate Rishel and Casey Kuhlman.

In accordance with his wishes, Fishy will be laid to rest during a private service to be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Fishy may be given to the American Cancer Society, 123 S. Sparks St., State College, Pa. 16801 or to the American Diabetes Association, Po Box 11454, Alexandria, VA. 22312.
