Lucille Mellott 72, of State College, our loving wife, mother, sister and friend, was taken from us unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.

Lucille was born December 6, 1936 in Windber, a daughter of the late Fred and Genevieve (Cochrane) Burke.

She had graduated from Replogle High School in 1956 where she served as a cheerleader and was a sports enthusiast.

On May 14, 1960, she married Lloyd C. Mellott who survives at home.

Mrs. Mellott worked at Bell Telephone in Bellefonte, Josten’s in State College for several years, and then worked at Rockview State Correctional Institution, retiring as a clerk.

A person of many talents and interests, she was active with the quilting group at Woodycrest United Methodist Church in State College. She was a member of Port Matilda Sportsman’s Club where she regularly participated in fund raising activities. Her other interests included folk art painting, sewing, traveling, culinary arts, gardening, shopping, and she loved animals, especially Cody and Pumpkin. Most importantly, she loved to help others in every way possible.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Karen G. Mellott of State College; one son Kevin L. Mellott and his wife Carol of Lamar; two sisters, Diane Anderson of Alum Bank and Patricia Widney of Newport News, VA; two brothers, James Burke of Hammondsport, NY and Clinton Burke of Woodbury.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle L. Mellott in 1967, and a sister, Helena Mercer.

Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p. m. Friday, November 20, 2009, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will be at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the funeral home with Reverend Dr. Henry Covert officiating. Burial will be in the Everett Cemetery, Everett, PA, where a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p. m., Saturday Nov. 21, 2009.
