Marcia C. Beppler, 89, of State College died Monday, May 22, 2017 at Foxdale Village. Born February 12, 1928 in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Henry Emmett and Ruth (Owen) Brown. Marcia attended and received high school diplomas from The Lincoln School of Columbia University (Honorary) and The Park School of Buffalo, NY.

On March 7, 1969 at the Eisenhower Chapel in State College, she married David C. Beppler who survives in State College.

Marcia received her Bachelor's, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees from The Pennsylvania State University. Studies within her PhD program included research into the role that homemaking had in the rehabilitation of handicapped men and women. Marcia was a member of the faculty in the College of Agriculture at Penn State . She was a member of the State 4H Office within which she adapted programs for Pennsylvania youth to observe the Bicentennial in 1976, to mainstream challenged Pennsylvania youth in 4H clubs and, specifically, used horsemanship as a means of rehabilitative development. This led to similar programs in the other 49 states. She served as State 4H leader for a period of her tenure in the 4H office. During this tenure she taught Home Economics in Nigeria and Cooperative Extension methods in the Sudan. In later years she represented the Presbytery of Huntingdon as a Volunteer in Mission in Thailand, living in the rural province of Nan, Northern Thailand.

After retiring from Penn State, Marcia was an active partner with her husband in the Centennial Springs lamb production enterprise. Her principal role was that of marketing lamb directly to consumers and handling all aspects of the fleece production.

Marcia considered her primary role throughout life as that of a mother. She was a consummate practicing homemaker: cooking, preserving food, gardening, producing pottery and engaging in several fiber arts.

She was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church and regularly attended services at the University Mennonite Church. She was also a member of the Halfmoon Garden Club.

In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by six children, Michael (Sharon) Crosman of College Park, MD, Ellen (Doug) Reddy of Reedsville, PA, Gail (Michael) Crosman Moore of Provincetown, MA, David Ross (Peggy Cannon) Beppler of Johns Creek, GA, Nancy (Robert) Hough of Lone Tree, CO, and Scott Alan (Anne Marie) Beppler of Ventura, CA; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Hugh Brown.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Marcia’s name may be made to the Foxdale Community Fund, 500 E. Marylyn Avenue, State College, PA 16801.
