Margaret D. Tennis, 86, of Boalsburg, died May 31, 2014, at her home surrounded, by her family

Born April 1, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John Deighton of Newcastle on Tyne, England and Rose Sunday Deighton of Pennsylvania Furnace, PA. On May 11, 1952 she married Kenneth R. Tennis, who preceded her in death on February 7, 2004.

She is survived by two children, Doreen and her husband, Roger E. Diehl, of State College, and John W. Tennis and his wife, Cathy, of State College; two sisters, Doreen White Lockwood of Loveland, CO, and Lillian and her husband, Alfred Hunsicker, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; four grandchildren, Emily Diehl and Nate Reader, of Salladasburg, PA, Evan Diehl and his fiancée, Skylar Burke, of Howard, PA, Christina and her husband, T. J. Campbell, of Yeagertown, PA, James Bartley, of Boalsburg, PA; and four great-grandchildren, Dominic Thompson, Ty Campbell, Gavin, and Elizabeth Hawkins.

Margaret was a 1946 graduate of Kenmore High School, Akron, OH. She started working with lamps when she was 13 years old at the Albright Lamp Company in Akron. Following her marriage to Ken, she moved to Pennsylvania and opened the Margaret Tennis Lamp Shop in Boalsburg. The shop was open for 50 years, and even though the shop officially closed a few years ago she was still giving lamp advice until her last days.

Margaret was an active member of the Boalsburg Village Merchants Association, a Charter Member of the Boalsburg Village Conservancy, and a founding committee member of Boalsburg’s Memorial Day celebration “A Day in Towne.”

She was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, the Rev. Brent Book officiating.

Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
