Margaret “Peg” C. Dearing, 74, of rural Centre Hall died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at her residence.

Born October 9, 1941 in State College she was a daughter of the late John and Ruth (Hohenberry) Sendzik.

On April 6, 1961 she married James “Jim” V. Dearing, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2010.

Peg grew up in Shingletown. She was a member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene. She loved to cook and she worked for Hoag’s catering for a period of time, she was also an employee of the former Omega Bank. She was a loving and compassionate person and always available to help anyone who needed it. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends and making sure her grandchildren were taken care of.

One of her passions which she shared with her husband was their interest in the Civil War. She was member of Battery B Third Pennsylvania Volunteers where she was an active participant in Civil war re-enactments. She owned over 100 authentically made dresses used for parades, re-enactments and Memorial Day Celebrations at Boalsburg, which she later donated to a theatre company in Tyrone and Battery B.

Peg took great pride and joy of the statue in the Boalsburg Cemetery, depicting the three women who are credited with observing the first Memorial Day. She actually posed for the statue, and is the lady kneeling.

Mrs. Dearing is survived by one daughter, Julie Rebecca Reighard (Stephen) of Boalsburg; two sisters, Carol DeHass of Boalsburg, Debra Hook of Bensalem; one brother, Michael Sendzik of Centre Hall; three grandchildren, Tiffany, Anthony and Jordan; two great grandsons, Braydon and Gage and her faithful pug Bella.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Kay Ray and a sister Vivian Smith.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 and Wednesday February 3rd from 10-11 AM at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 3601 S. Atherton Street, State College.
